Catechesis is an education in the faith of
children, young people, and adults which includes especially the teaching of
Christian doctrine imparted, generally speaking, in an organic and
systematic way, with a view to initiating the hearers into the fullness of
Christian life. |

We are currently developing weekly lesson plans. In the mean time, we use
the Coming Home Catholic e-letter as our family's lesson plan. Although we
have tried other curricula, that which works best for us is to have
Catholic night every Tuesday. Together we read the Sunday readings,
discuss the history of the writers of the books, introduce new prayers,
discuss relevant doctrine from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, read
about upcoming saints' days, and pick a reading for the following
week. The children, ages 8-13, are in charge of desserts, so it is always
fun and calories with learning!
We use the standards (above) as a check-off list to make sure we are
instructing our children appropriately. If we are missing something on the
standards, we add it to our lesson plan.
Click here to see our lesson
plan outline. Our primary focus is to live our Catholic faith. We
refer to doctrine, examples from saints, and love in dealing with others
throughout our everyday activities. Doing so does make us aware of our own
faults, but also makes us aware of our many blessings.
